Episode 70 - Day 26 of 30 Days To More Sales - Why Customers Leave a Full Cart Behind

Oct 06, 2026

She wanted the product.

She chose it.

She picked the size or version.

She put it in her cart.

And then she left.

That customer is giving you a very different clue than someone who never clicked in the first place.

I’ve done this test inside our own businesses more than once.

I put one of our products in the cart on my phone and tried to check out like I had never seen the company before.

That’s harder than it sounds when you own the business.

I already knew what shipping usually cost.

I knew how quickly orders normally went out.

I knew which option I needed.

I knew our policies.

A brand-new customer didn’t know any of that.

So I had to stop filling in the missing information in my own head and pay attention to what the customer was actually seeing.

And that’s when the little things started showing up.

Questions.

Uncertainty.

Things that suddenly made the purchase feel different than it did five seconds earlier.

That’s what we’re talking about in Day 26 of 30 Days to More Sales.

Because a full cart tells you something important:

She was interested enough to get pretty far. Something happened before she finished.

And that doesn’t automatically mean she needs another coupon.

IN THIS EPISODE, YOU’LL HEAR:

  • Why an abandoned cart is different from a customer who never wanted the product
  • What I noticed when I went through our own checkout like a brand-new customer
  • Why knowing your business too well can make checkout problems harder to see
  • The kinds of things that can turn a customer’s “yes” into “maybe later”
  • Why another discount isn’t always the best abandoned-cart strategy
  • How the clues can look different on Shopify, Amazon, Walmart.com, TikTok Shop, and Etsy
  • Why your mobile checkout deserves special attention
  • How to decide what part of the experience deserves fixing first

YOUR ONE CLEAR NEXT STEP

Choose one product that customers are putting in their carts but not always buying.

Put it in your cart on your own phone.

Then go through the experience as if you know absolutely nothing about your company.

Pay attention to the moment when buying stops feeling easy or certain.

Don’t fix five things yet.

First, find the moment that deserves a closer look.

Full-Cart Checkout Check

I created the Full-Cart Checkout Check to help you look at your cart and checkout through the eyes of a new customer instead of relying on what you already know about your business.

It gives you a completed example, a simple phone-based checkout check, help identifying what may be getting in the customer’s way, and a recovery-message example you can use without automatically reaching for another discount.
