Episode 53 - Day 8 of 30 Days To More Sales - How to Write a One-Liner That Clearly Explains What You Sell
Sep 19, 2026
The Product Made Sense — Once I Explained It
I’ve walked into retail meetings carrying boxes of samples and knowing I had only a few minutes to make the whole product line make sense.
The buyer didn’t know the story yet. She didn’t know why we created each product, what made it different, or which one her customer should buy first.
I knew all of it.
And sometimes, that was the problem.
When you know your products inside and out, it’s easy to start explaining in the middle instead of at the beginning.
In a retail meeting, I could see when the buyer looked confused. I could slow down, pick up the product, and explain it another way.
Online, you don’t get that chance.
Your customer gets a picture and a few words.
And in just a few seconds, she’s trying to figure out:
What is this?
Is it for me?
Why should I care?
That’s what we’re working on in Day 8 of 30 Days to More Sales.
Because if your product makes perfect sense when you’re standing there explaining it, but the customer can’t figure it out without you, the product may not be the problem.
The words may still need work.
IN THIS EPISODE, YOU’LL HEAR:
- Why knowing your product too well can actually make it harder to explain
- What years of selling products to retail buyers taught me about clear messaging
- Why your customer shouldn’t have to work to figure out what you sell
- The difference between a clever tagline and a sentence that actually helps someone buy
- The three things your customer needs to understand quickly
- Why clear usually needs to come before clever
- How the same basic message can work across Amazon, Shopify, Walmart.com, TikTok Shop, and Etsy
- Where to put your clearest message so customers actually see it
YOUR ONE CLEAR NEXT STEP
Choose one product.
Not your entire company. Not your whole catalog.
One product.
Then ask yourself:
Could someone who has never seen this product before understand what it is, who it’s for, and why it matters without me standing there to explain it?
In the episode, I’ll show you how to turn those answers into one simple sentence you can actually use in your marketing.
